The Coronavirus has changed our lives in many ways, but there is one change that might be here to stay and many will be happy to see it stick around. Due to quarantines, social distancing, and other restrictions, many employers have shifted to work from home environments. Also known as remote working, this new flexibility provides many to work remotely from really wherever they want. Naturally, flexibility varies with each job and employer, but some are seekingย destinations like Jaco where they can come for a month at a time or longer. While in the past such an idea was impossible for many, now people are starting to rethink their lifestyles and incorporate ways to find alternative destinations where they can still work. The Jaco area is a prime destination as it has all the features that people are seeking
- solid infrastructure to work from
- plenty of accommodations in which people can rent for extended stays
- proximity to San Jose and the international airport
- nature and outdoor activities
- and little outbreak of Covid-19
Amazon employees are working remotely in Jaco.
We know what you are thinking, but theย borders are closed and Costa Rica is still not receiving international tourism? Yes, but we are referring to local ex-pats and Costa Ricans who are seeking these options. Once borders open the Jaco area anticipates seeing international travelers coming for extended stays, but in the meantime, there is currently a strong demand of those in the metropolitan areas of San Jose wanting to get out of the city and work at the beach. Amazon has been aggressively hiring in Costa Rica and is allowing their employees to work remotely. We have also seen many more business owners from San Jose now making Jaco their main base and instead just commuting to the city once or twice a week. It makes sense, fewer cases here, fewer restrictions, warm weather, beaches, the real question is why wouldn’t you come this way?
The interesting observation is just how much employers will continue to maintain and shift remote working options in the future. As more companies roll out remote work-from-home options, the entire playing field changes. It wonโt matter where a person resides any longer. With all of the current technologyโand it’s reasonable to presume that enhanced services will be created to make it even easierโwhat difference would it make if the employee lives in San Jose or in Texas or Paris? This trend is gaining momentum and is likely to become the new norm post Covid-19, and Jaco will likely benefit from many new residents and vacationers.ย
Working remotely at the beach seems like the smart move.
