Jaco Tico Deals Card Provides Local Discounts & Supports Local Sports

Unlike many other beach destinations in Costa Rica, Jaco is unique in that it is a larger residential community with a blend of expats and locals.  While it is a second home or vacation home for many, the town and area continue to grow as one of the biggest beach communities in Costa Rica.  This is leading to a demand for more restaurants and services along with a growing number of families who seek extracurricular activities and sports for their children.  Well, it appears we now have a great new resource to help support all of that.

Tico Deals Local Discount Card, is a new digital card that offers discounts at local restaurants and businesses in the Jaco area.  100% of the profits from card purchases are donated to support local youth sports programs which are all in desperate financial need.  In exchange for discounts and promotions, local businesses recieve the opportunity to promote themselves and help reach new customers.   It is truly a win win for everyone and certainly a no brainer at a cost of just $29.  There are a countless great discounts already with more to be added.

The Tico Deals Discount Card was created by Lisle Head, who started up the HEAD Foundation a few years ago to help improve and create a more sustainable soccer program for his daughter.  “H-E-A-D Foundation was officially started last year. HEAD stands for Helping Everyone Achieve Dreams.” says Lisle.  “I have been investing back in the community and local sports for the past 15 years.  For the last 3 years I have really gotten involved in Girls’ Soccer and have been supporting Futbol Femenino Garabito.  We have been supporting more than 100 girls in the area.   I started the Foundation so we could get more reach from the USA as we have such a huge expat community here and this allows them to invest back in the community while also receiving a tax benefit.”

While Lisle has received some support locally, he still has a way to go and wants to go further, adding more programs, including more support for the boy’s soccer programs. “As we are working on making the Girls Organization Sustainable we will be looking to get involved in Boys Soccer as well.  Ultimately we would like to be involved in all youth sports in the area.  My dream is to create small businesses like this Digital Discount Card that helps local businesses and the community while at the same time taking the profits to give back to the youth.  I believe that if we can invest in our youth and give them opportunities, we can make the most positive impact on the future of our community.”  While the idea for similar discount cards supported by locals is common practice in the US, this is the first time we have seen the idea in Jaco.  The app just went live and he hopes that this can be just the start of seeing more and more local residents and businesses beginning to get more involved in supporting and growing sports and other causes in our community.
