A Sport for All Ages
In 1965, an American family played at their patio what we now know as Pickleball for the first time, not realizing it would become one of the hottest sports years later. Pickleball is a fusion of tennis, ping-pong, and badminton, played on a smaller court with solid paddles and lighter, perforated plastic balls. Like its base sports, the goal is to hit the ball over the net and prevent the opposing team from returning it. The rules are simple, and fun is guaranteed from the very first dink.
Thanks to its simplicity and versatility, Pickleball It’s a straightforward sport that requires minimal gear: comfortable clothing, sneakers, a refillable water bottle, paddles (bring your own or rent one at the club for just $3), and balls. The facility features a sports store with athletic wear, paddles of various categories and prices, and balls for sale, as well as showers for post-game refreshments. It is ideal for all ages and skill levels, as it is the easiest to learn and adapt of all Racket sports and can be the least physically demanding. The club offers classes for beginners and advanced players, coaching sessions with world-class Pickleball coaches, and regular tournaments.

Three years ago, Canadian founder Rick Brennan discovered Pickleball thanks to his 80-year-old brother, a national champion in the U.S. “This was the perfect opportunity to combine my passion for sports and business. So I decided to bring Pickleball to Jacó, and here we are!” he shares. Since then, Pickleball Sports Club has become a hub for making friends, playing, enjoying great food, delicious smoothies, or relaxing.
Memberships and Events
There are multiple options to join the club, including annual, quarterly, monthly, junior, and even 20-year memberships. These offer benefits such as lockers, towels, personalized coaching, restaurant discounts, and access to an exclusive app. Additionally, Pickleball lovers can enjoy the space by reserving one of the four courts and paying for a day pass, either individually or in a group of four. Each week, the club organizes activities to attract more picklers of all ages, including kids’ camps, tournaments such as horseshoe and cornhole, open play, family fun days on Sunday mornings, adult fun days, non-pickleball tournaments, card and board games, and the option to host private events. As the global Pickleball community continues to grow, the club also offers Pickleball retreats in Costa Rica to provide a balanced combination of play, relaxation, and adventure, promoting national tourism as well as the sport.

Under the motto “We’re gonna make sure the food is good,” La Cocina Restaurant offers an upmarket pub menu that includes burgers, nachos, sandwiches, and more options for every palate, while the bar serves signature cocktails, like the house favorite Watermelon Martini.
